Below you will find the full list of the nominations for the 70th Emmy Awards which will air in September. In all honesty? There aren't many surprises at all. The drama category is more or less made up of the same shows that have dominated the category for years, and at an educated guess, will probably be between Game of Thrones, The Handmaid's Tale & The Crown.
It's an extremely baffling decision to include Strangers Things, as the show may have a lot of critical acclaim and be a hit with fans, but out of all the genre shows that could've possibly been nominated? It's really not the greatest choice. The Crown was snubbed last year for The Handmaids Tale, as whilst it may be one of Netflix's most expensive dramas and its stars have acclaim, the show struggles to reach those same heights.
I suppose the only good thing about the comedy category is that Modern Family isn't nominated. The Emmy's for some unknown reason continue to snub Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The show may not wow me week in and week out, but it is still one of the best comedies on television, along with the likes of Black-ish and Speechless. No doubt the award will be battled out between Atlanta, Glow and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
The comedic nominations are about what you'd expect from the Emmy's. Not good, not bad, just sitting in between. How Andre Braugher can continue to be snubbed more or less makes the category invalid. For the drama nominations it is good to see Keri Russell continue to be nominated even if she won't win, Tatiana Maslany being nominated for Orphan Black feels like a waste when you consider how awful that final season was, but Claire Foy and Sandra Oh are well worth their nominations and I would love to see Sandra triumph. Sterling K. Brown will probably win the actor category though Matthew Rhys could give him a run for his money and I'd consider Milo Ventimiglia a dark horse.
The limited series nominations partially redeemed the Jodie Comer snub by including Jessica Biel. She is what made The Sinner as good as its first season was, and I hope she manages to triumph. How exactly Jodie Comer escaped a nomination though is something scientists will still be trying to work out in 30 years time. It's also quite baffling how Sandra and Phoebe can receive nominations for their excellent work on Killing Eve, and yet the show itself gets nothing.
Ever year we have hope for the Emmy's. Every year our reward is further disappointment.
