Billy Dee Williams Reprising Role as Lando Calrissian In Star Wars: Episode IX

And here we were ready to declare this a slow Monday! In breaking news, its been revealed that Billy Dee Williams aka Lando Calrissian will be reprising his role in Star Wars: Episode IX.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news a short time ago. This news shouldn't be that shocking in theory, considering there are always rumours of actors reprising their Star Wars roles (we're still waiting for more info on that Obi-Wan movie!).

Production on IX begins later this summer and The Hollywood Reporter explained that chatter over Billy's role in the movie has increased in recent days, after he pulled out of a sci-fi and pop culture convention stating scheduling conflict with a movie schedule.

You may remember that Billy made his debut as Lando in Empire Strikes Back, being revealed as an old friend that Han turned to for help with ship repairs and hiding from the Empire. He promptly betrayed his friend by handing him over to Darth Vader, but all was forgiven and forgotten in the final movie of the original trilogy Return Of The Jedi.

Since then Lando was most recently featured in the Han Solo prequel, albeit portrayed by Donald Glover.

Episode IX is of course being directed by J.J Abrams and sees Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and John Boyega among the principal cast returning. Just last week it was also reported that Keri Russell, most famous for her leading role in FX's recently finished spy drama The Americans, will also feature in IX though details on her character have not been revealed.
