CONTROLRadioUK New Music Friday Featuring Krewella, Friendly Fires, Kyle Minogue, Hatchie + Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa

Here at CONTROLRadioUK we're always on the look-out for music be it for the playlist, or just because we think the tracks are pretty neat. And on New Music Friday, we're bringing you a select choice of the freshest tracks released this week.

Krewella are fantastic. What they do with music is nothing short of sublime. No song ever songs the same, it always has something fresh to it and 'Runaway' is just the perfect song to kick away those post work Friday blues. It's got a bit of an 80's undertone to it, hint of dubstep, and just sounds absolutely marvelous. Sure the song doesn't really have much depth to it lyrically but sometimes you don't need to.

NO THIS ISN'T SOME SICK JOKE. FRIENDLY FIRES ARE BACK WITH BRAND NEW MUSIC! They've also announced a bunch of gigs on their Twitter page. It feels like for absolute ever since they were blessing us with music, and this time that isn't my exaggeration; it's been 6 years since they released and you'd have to go back to 2011 for the last time they released an album. They have sorely been missed and thankfully (was there really any doubt though) 'Love Like Waves' is an absolutely stupendous song. Its infectious beats are everything about Friendly Fires we know and love, for a band that's been away so long they still sound as fresh & current as ever and the lyrics are pretty damn good as well. Between Friendly Fires, Hayley Kiyoko & The Vaccines, the long wait for new music from Bastile & OneRepublic doesn't feel so bad.

An unpopular opinion here at CONTROLRadioUK HQ and apparently among the mainstream media as well, but Kyle Minogue's new album is fantastic. Unfortunately we won't be doing an in-depth review of the album, so you'll just have to make do with my gushing over 'Golden'. I think it perfectly illustrates the albums dance & country vibes. Parts of the song especially in the breaks remind me a lot of the old Kyle stuff, just with a fresh take on it. The message of the song is empowering and I would love if it got a music video, but I think that might be pushing it a bit. Where the criticism of the album is concerned, I think people need to remember that reinvention is key to the music industry. Music and the society landscape that it exists in is currently changing, as are we as people and Artists are more than entitled to try something a bit different every now & again to keep the creative juices floating. None more so than an Artists such as Kyle Minogue who has been in the industry long before I was born. Sticking to the same old would just make her music boring to listen to, and no doubt boring to actually produce. Just embrace the 'Golden' era for what it is & get ya country boots on!

This collaboration was teased, fans and critics alike were waiting with anticipation and finally Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa's big collab dropped. 'One Kiss' is obviously a pretty neat song. Most likely one that will definitely be a grower over multiple listens. I don't think this song is as good as some of the material they've both dropped in the past, but it's a good enough tune, with some cool Friday night club vibes to it.

Finishing off this weeks New Music Friday (and indeed a long week of many reviews + articles) is this beauty from Hatchie. It's got an extremely trippy video to accompany it, which honestly fits the vibe of the song to a tee. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I pressed play but it is a fabulous song. It has some nice 70's, flowery vibes to it, the lyrics are catchy as hell and Hatchie is most definitely an Artist that is going to be glued to my playlist for a while.
