Here at CONTROLRadioUK we're always on the look-out for music be it for the playlist, or just because we think the tracks are pretty neat. And on New Music Friday, we're bringing you a select choice of the freshest tracks released this week.
Am I the only one who always feel shock when I remember that a year was soooooo long ago? We're closer to 2022 than we are to either 2002 or 2012 and it just makes me wanna cry. Thankfully though once you get over that initial shock, '2002' is a fun, nostalgia filled pop ride, beyond perfect for this spate of sunshine that's hit the UK recently. Everyone remembers what it was like when you were a kid, acting MUCH older and that feeling of invincibility as you took to the streets with your friends for fun. The lyric video is also quite imaginative and a bit of a break from the standard lyric videos we've become used to. In case anyone needs a reminder Anne-Marie's debut album "Speak Your Mind" is out next Friday.
First things first this ISN'T to be confused with Danish singer MØ. M.O the band are one that's probably been flying under the radar for quite a few years now, despite producing some top hits. 'With You' is another fine song, this time with Dusk. It's a song that is perfect for the summer beach season that we're soon entering. The message of the song is also interesting enough and I really do love the beats.
The Aces are an excellent band. Sort of like a cross between HAIM and The 1975 (which is something a lot of people have been saying). This video is very much fitting with that anesthetic. 'Physical' is a wonderful song with a really feisty attitude that is perfectly matched by the band, and will probably get you up on the dance floor.
In more 'how on earth did I not know this news' Bishop Briggs released "Church of Scars" today. It is a wonderful album, but then everything from Bishop is. Having to choose which song to feature here was extremely difficult (but you know I had to feature something) and 'Tempt My Trouble' just about edges it. I love the music, I like the story the songs telling, and I love the fact this isn't as in your face musically as some of her previous releases. It can sometimes be a temptation to overplay the music because you have the Producers + Vocals that are incapable of doing so, but sometimes the subtle approach is all that's needed. The result of which is a brilliant up-tempo Pop/Rock number with some excellent breakdown beats.
'There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls)' has a surprisingly airy feel to it considering the message of the song. I honestly just love songs like this which completely take apart the break-up/relationship drama genre of music, and put its own little twist on things. It's got a 70's/80's synth pop feel about it, and I can completely see why this song has been compared to The Killers and Abba. And dare I say that Blossom's acoustic version of this is even better? Because I am!
