The Bold Type We'll Always Have Paris Advance Preview

After 10 weeks, The Bold Type's 2nd season finishes next week. Its been a season which has divided fans and critics for numerous reasons, so it feels only fair that the finale should follow that trend.

For a brief reminder last week's episode saw Pinstripe tell Jane he still has feelings for her, Kat try to make amends in her relationship with Adena but some distance still left, an eventful road trip help Sutton build bridges with her mother and an inkling that all is not well for Jacqueline at Scarlet.

'Well Always Have Paris' as you may have guessed centres on Paris! Fashion week has finally arrived which means Kat, Sutton, Oliver and Jacqueline are heading to Europe! Unfortunately their problems travel with them.

Some devastating news at the beginning of the episode causes Sutton to reach out with support from Jane, and later on she has a teary conversation with Oliver which you may have seen in the promo. For Sutton, she's had a season of growth. She's very much not the person that she was when the 2nd season began, far more confident in herself and her abilities, and that confidence leads her to believe what she once thought she couldn't have, she actually can and it seems someone agrees with her. Life after all is too short, with none of us knowing when it'll end, so you have to grab opportunities with both horns instead of just wondering 'what if'.

She is of course not the only one dealing with matters of the heart. Things begin on a somewhat happy note for Kat/Adena as Adena gets some really good news, but unfortunately the good mood does not last very long. A chance encounter causes Kat to take a second look at their relationship, and more specifically what is going on with Adena, and that leads her into another conversation which completely knocks the wind out of her sails. One scene in particular will be particularly brutal to watch, but it is something that has been a long time coming. Kat's impulsive nature tends to be what makes the headlines, but she's also a person who wears her heart on her sleeve, and does have her heart in the right place, even if she doesn't always do the right thing. We obviously can't reveal exactly what happens, but no doors on any front are being closed in this finale.

That's obviously going to be a good thing for some people, but it's extremely annoying in other places. The promo revealed that Jane & Pinstripe would be sharing a moment, and unfortunately it seems The Bold Type isn't free from Freeform's love triangle curse. We'll have more thoughts on this in our post episode review, but Jane is left with decisions to make in her love life and personal life. Some of those decisions we get answers on in the finale, but like many other storylines this episode, many things are left open.

Quite honestly, if it wasn't for the fact the show has already been renewed for a 3rd season and filming very much under way, I'd be extremely annoyed with this finale. I do absolutely hate bubble shows basically leaving all their storylines open in the hope of being renewed, instead of just tying 99% of things up and leaving crumbs. As a result of the show being renewed for a 2nd & 3rd season after season 1 finished, I'm not completely annoyed with the episodes events, but it does leave a bitter taste in my mouth. It's quite obvious the 2nd season has been mapped out as a joint arc with the 3rd season. Where season 1 left us in a positive place for where things could be going, and we looked forward to such things as Jane leaving Scarlet to continue growing and Kat deciding to be brave by going after Adena, there's none of that optimism here. By all accounts you could simply view this finale as being a mid-season finale, because that's what it feels like, and for those that have tuned in every week and looked forward to the finale closing off another chapter, you're going to be extremely disappointed.

We'll Always Have Paris is an emotional roller-coaster. You will laugh, you will cry, you'll be annoyed, you'll have your heart warmed and the show's soundtrack is on point as always. You can catch the finale on Tuesday at 8pm on Freeform.
