James J Turner New Single 'Hey Brother' Out 14th September 2018 From New Album "Future Meets the Past" (Spring 2019)

Hey Brother is the brand new single from Liverpool’s James J Turner. (Sep 14 Touch the Moon) One of the most unique and potent artists to emerge from the Acoustic music scene in recent years. “Hey Brother” explores what is often the first chapter of local or family history. Peoples’ roots within, and connection to, local areas are important, and some people trace their ancestral roots back to particular locations for hundreds of years.

James's powerful voice and dextrous guitar playing provide the backbone to his passionate, anthemic songs. His recent studio albums (2012: “How Could We Be Wrong?” 2016: “Spirit, Soul & a Handful of Mud”) stormed the acoustic music scene, receiving incredible critical acclaim across UK and Europe gaining him thousands of fans plus UK and European radio play including regional and national BBC stations and key live gigs including mainstream folk festivals.

“Hey Brother” explores what is often the first chapter of local or family history. Peoples’ roots within, and connection to, local areas are important, and some people trace their ancestral roots back to particular locations for hundreds of years. However, local or family histories also usually tell a story of peoples’ migration, as our ancestors have moved around to different regions, seeking new opportunities, often out of dire necessity. “Hey Brother” tells one of these stories from the perspective of a newcomer to an area. The single will be available from 14th September 2018 from all main digital stores, with CDs available to buy from James’s website or Townsend Music Store.

James was delighted to be awarded the support of Arts Council England for a new 2018 album and national tour. This album, called “Future Meets the Past”, was recorded in Spring 2018 and was developed around the theme of the Bardic Druid who tries to reconnect people both to the natural world and the cultural and historical roots of our past. The new album features characteristic James J Turner songs with strident lyrics, catchy melodies, anthemic choruses and strong hooks; plus first class musicianship from James (vocals / guitar / whistles / mandolin / shruti box), Neil McCartney (from Merry Hell) plus Amy Chalmers on fiddle, Etienne Girard (upright & electric bass) and Dave Ormsby (drums). The tracks were all recorded as organically as possible with the bass and drum playing live together and no digital editing. The first single from the new album Hey Brother is released on 14th September 2018, with album and national tour scheduled for Spring 2019.
