Cher, Broods, The Struts & You Me At Six Are Our Music Monday Picks

Here at CONTROLRadioUK, we're always on the look-out for the freshest tunes be it for playlisting or you dear reader. In music Monday, we're bringing you some of the best tracks you should be listening to this week!

Gosh this song is so damn good! We've been treated to our fair share of covers over the years, and there have been endless Abba tributes to add to that. Cher's version of 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)' it's just such a bop. This isn't the only gift Cher has given us though. Whilst she and Mammia Mia 2 are currently fly high in the box office, Cher has revealed she has a new album coming out on the 28th September. As the title "Dancing Queen" would suggest, it is an album of Abba covers. You can pre-order it here. From a personal view point I'm not really into covers or even remixes unless they're adding something new to the song. Be it a different texture of vocals, experimenting with the music, it needs to have that special something to set it apart from the original. Cher has more than accomplished that here and I'm extremely intrigued to see what the album sounds like.

So, every week I trawl the Internet looking for the best new songs to present to CONTROLRadioUK HQ. Some weeks HQ agrees with me that the songs are absolute bops. Other weeks I'm greeted with 'Yeah, we can totally see why you chose these songs because they're totally you, in all of your moody goodness'. This week I was greeted with the latter and found myself slightly bemused because 'Primadonna Like Me' is an absolute bop, and I expect no less from The Struts. They're a fantastic band who offer up that unique something we're not getting with other bands. Always a joy to listen to, most of their songs including this feel like a stadium anthem and has fabulous replay value. It's a song that gets going right from the off and never lets up, and it won't be long before you're bouncing along to this as well.

A song that is slightly more of the moody variety but no less excellent is Broods latest offering 'Peach'. They're a band I've mentioned once or twice in the past in my picks. Their 2016 release "Conscious" is still an album I listen to on a regular basis. It's full of bops, both in the sense of songs you can dance to and ones that will tear at the heart strings. 'Peach' gets off to a bit of a slow start and is most definitely a song that grows on you over time. The beats are infectious, the chorus will most certainly get stuck in your head and the operatic feel towards the songs climax is beautiful.

Finishing off this week is the latest song from You Me At Six called 'I O U'. Sound wise it reminds me a lot of Royal Blood. The song is the 3rd single to be released from their latest album “VI” (3 Am and Fastforward were previous singles from the album), and it's a delicious blend of Pop/Rock/RNB/Electronic music. It's also another song with a fantastic break in the beat as it reaches its climax, which takes the song in a completely different direction and I love every second of it.
