Doneganband NEW DOUBLE A SINGLE 'The End & 'Human Behaviour' Out 5th October 2018

British band Donegan have released The End and Human Behaviour, a new double-A-side single from their critically-acclaimed debut album, First XI. First XI has been highlighted as featuring "a wealth of musical variety and an engaging narrative journey … a full-length debut replete with varied and adventurous instrumentation across a range of genres" (Vents Magazine) and as a "tapestry of styles and flavours embracing folk, rock, pop, and more with progressive fuelled imagination … At times it is cinematic; at times an intricate collusion between orchestral grandeur and earthier rock textures and from start to finish a fine relationship between intimacy and the wider aspects it can allude to" (RingMaster Review).

The album's curtain-raiser, The End, has been described as an "Indie-rock anthem… [featuring] Thomas and Coulter rocking out on no less than three lead guitars (plus bass and two rhythm guitars), vocal duets and a strong brass section" (Jammerzine) which is both "melody woven" and "expanding" (RingMasterReview). The track resonates as an anthem for many rites of passage. Songwriter Thomas explained to us that it was originally written when he graduated, about experiences leaving behind friendships that had been developed at university, but the words were softened and can be interpreted in other contexts, including even as a break-up song.

Donegan explained that their second song, Human Behaviour, only just made the cut for the album, but has been received as "the catchiest track, a quirky and punchy Britpop number" (Jammerzine) and as a "pop n' roll" number that "broadens its landscape of imagination" (RingMasterReview). The song irreverently observes male/female interactions in a bar and speculates on the excuses that may be made by ladies rejecting a particularly enthusiastic but unappealing courtier. In its lyrics and get-up, it recalls Blur's "Charmless Man" but studying an entirely different kind of character.

Donegan's previous single releases from the album (Candles, I Wonder) have come from the more cerebral, harmonious spectrum of the album. This new double-A-side showcases two of the band's most popular songs, both of which are very much Britpop or alt rock numbers, showcasing some of the album's well-received variety and musicianship.

"Each track provides a musically solid chapter that embeds its own unique thematic style and conceived composition via a truly thought-out and original project. Imagine songwriters given a chance to write a script. And, while each song is solid on its own footing, Donegan show that, as a concept, songs are like family: they are stronger when they are together." - Jammerzine

“With a wealth of musical variety and an engaging narrative journey, Donegan’s full-length debut is replete with varied and adventurous instrumentation” – VENTS Magazine

“It is tapestry of styles and flavours embracing folk, rock, pop, and more with progressive fuelled imagination embracing the past handful of decades. At times it is cinematic; at times an intricate collusion between orchestral grandeur and earthier rock textures and from start to finish a fine relationship between intimacy and the wider aspects it can allude to." – RingMaster Review.
