Rock & Screen Stars Unite to Honour WW1 Heroes As Evamore Releasing 'One More Yard' on 2nd November

One More Yard

Released 2nd November 2018

ONE MORE YARD IS THE FIRST RELEASE FROM ‘EVAMORE’; THE PROJECT FOUNDED AND CURATED BY PROFESSOR SIR CHRIS EVANS OBE

On 2nd November, the ‘One More Yard’ EP will be released on Evamore Records. The EP will be the first release as part of the Evamore project, which chronicles the sacrifice of young World War One soldiers and also aims to raise awareness of today’s war on cancer.

‘One More Yard’ is inspired by the letters home from a young Irish soldier killed at Flanders. The track’s lead vocals come courtesy of Sinead O’Connor, with supporting vocals by Imelda May. Ronnie Wood plays guitar on the track, with Nick Mason on drums.

“I love the track One More Yard – a sad true story set to a haunting melody. It was a pleasure playing on it. I hope everyone gets behind this great initiative – and there will be more news soon.” – Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones)

The EP includes a prologue section featuring haunting instrumentation from the iconic producer Brian Eno, with spoken word from acclaimed actor Cillian Murphy as he reads extracts of letters written by Lieutenant Michael Thomas Wall from the Royal Irish Regiment, to his mother in Dublin.

In his letters, Michael wrote:

“Nothing was spared, nothing – and when done there was not one more yard left”.

Battling one more yard across no man’s land was a phrase often repeated by many soldiers in their letters and diaries. John Reynolds, who produced the EP, said:

“The outstanding lead vocal of Sinead O’Connor and the craftsmanship of fellow artists combine to make ‘One More Yard’ a very fitting tribute to these young men as we approach the centenary of Armistice Day. The artists have taken great pride in getting involved and shown real humility and sensitivity.”

The Evamore project started four years ago when leading scientific entrepreneur, Professor Sir Chris Evans, was conducting research on creating a new cancer awareness charity. He was struck by the emotional struggle of young people confronted with cancer and how similar their written expressions and fighting spirit were to those of young soldiers thrust into war.

Reading over 30,000 letters written by young WW1 soldiers in the trenches, inspired Sir Chris and co-artists, to write a collection of original songs using the soldiers’ common themes, words and phrases to tell their stories.

“This is an outstanding project that allows people such as myself to pay our tribute to the young men of 100 years ago who fought for our freedom but also to do something to help many young people facing cancer today. I am delighted to part of bringing these songs to fruition.” – Nick Mason (Pink Floyd)

The EP was produced by John Reynolds, the overall Creative Producer for Evamore, and was mastered by Real World. Full track listing for Evamore – ‘One More Yard’ EP below:

1. One More Yard (Complete)
2. One More Yard (ft. Sinead O’Connor)
3. One More Yard Letter (ft. Cillian Murphy & Brian Eno)
4. One More Yard (Orchestral)

“As we approach the centenary of Armistice Day, the sacrifice of all those young soldiers 100 years ago will be rightly honoured across the world. I feel exceptionally privileged that some of the greatest names in rock music and wonderful actors feel they too want to contribute and pay tribute to these outstanding young men through our music and words and, at the same time, help raise awareness of the challenges so many young people of today face in dealing with the dreadful disease that is cancer.”

Legends of Tomorrow Witch Hunt Review: "Say Hello to the Twisted Fairy Godmother!"

As does tend to be the way with Legends of Tomorrow, this was a surprisingly emotional episode. Not what I thought I'd be writing about an episode that featured an extremely naughty fairy Godmother, but these are the types of episodes that LOT does so well.

We're living in an extremely volatile political climate. Encouraged to fight for what we believe in, to fight for the little people, use our voices for something that matters, speaking out and fighting back against an enemy to which logic does not compute. No matter where you go? It's extremely difficult to escape the subject of politics because it does impact on our every day lives, so it's no surprise that TV shows are seeping storylines of a political nature into episodes.

Supergirl has begun its 4th season with an anti-alien group wreaking havoc. It's extremely easy to condemn them for their actions because they're hurting aliens that have mostly come in peace, and just want to live a better life on earth than they'd get on their home planet, but with this weeks episode we got to see the other side of Agent Liberty and how exactly they came to have such a hatred for aliens. With Legends of Tomorrow this week? A journey to Salem to find a fugitive magical creature turned into Zari trying to save a girl and her mother from being burnt at the stake. Sara was insistent that they had to let history play out, because as we're constantly reminded, whilst the Legends might travel through time they don't change things that can have wide lasting ramifications on the timeline. It's why Quentin and Earth 1 Laurel Lance are still dead, despite Sara having the ability to go back in time and stop that from happening, and it's why Zari lives with an ache in her heart.

The show reminds us quite often that Zari comes from an extremely difficult time filled with prejudice and death. She lives with the fact that her families life is forever doomed because of this, and no matter how much she wants to change it she's not allowed to. Bearing this in mind it's completely understandable that Zari would immediately feel empathy for a young witch and her mother, who a man accuses of being a witch just because she turned him down and her mother is willing to be burnt if it means protecting her daughter who is the actual said witch. There have often been missions where the team is torn in half, some wanting to go rogue and change things for the better even if it has ever lasting consequences and others trying to be the voice of reason.

In this episode that voice of reason was ship captain Sara who was once again trying to reign Zari in. That's not something that went too well for her as Zari of course went rogue and used her totem to try and break Jane Hawthorne out of prison, and reunite her with her daughter Prudence. To her surprise, Jane is very much willing to take the punishment and die and she's even willing to forgive her killers if it means her daughter is able to live her life. Zari points out that knowing her mother died for her is something that will haunt Prudence forever, but Jane is resolute that she will eventually be free of her burden and absolutely refuses to run.

At the trial Reverend Parsons lays out all of Jane's crimes and how she is completely and utterly evil and must be burned if Salem is to rid itself of witches. I'm pretty sure viewers were as angered by his speech as Zari was, but it does raise a good point. It is so easy to accuse someone of actions out of spite and malice. It's extremely easy to then come up with a list of reasons for why they should be condemned, and it's so easy for a crowd to just go along with that. It's a thing of human nature that when we don't understand something, we're skeptical and scared of it and that can lead us to do horrendous things. In Zari's case her anger and frustration over the doom that is her families fate well and truly came to the surface, as she used her totem on the Reverend to free Jane. She did rightly point out that the trial was bogus, the Reverend was the true evil and the people needed to stand up against him, but of course they didn't listen. So Zari ended up becoming the very thing she was condemning and took matters into her own hands, using the totem to choke the Reverend and several other people. She could've quite easily killed them all and she knew that. She did eventually regain control of herself, and realize that her anger had caused her to become the very thing she was protesting.

Unfortunately at that point the Reverend re-took control of the situation, and decided to condemn both Zari and Jane to the stake and burn them. Zari's power and almost dying well and truly had the Reverend shook, and when you're truly scared you do just what the evil thing terrorizing you to go away. Luckily Sara was on hand to interrupt the burning and kick some fine ass, before Prudence showed up with her fairy Godmother to wreak revenge on all those that had hurt her mother. That's when Zari was forced to step up and point out that her mother doesn't want Prudence using her power for evil. In a game of one up man ship the fairy Godmother challenged Zari to tell Prudence that things do eventually get better in the future, and mankind does learn its lesson. She of course couldn't admit that because mankind really does not learn anything from the past, but reiterated that you don't beat your enemies by stooping down to the level, you beat them by being better.

Some might view that answer as a cop-out but it's the truth and a very good PSA. We are living in extremely difficult times and unfortunately, some people take their ideologies to the extreme and kill innocent people. It is completely and utterly terrible, but taking a life for a life doesn't even the score it only makes things worse. Even if it is extremely difficult (and it is REALLY difficult at the best of times) when they go low we do have to go high because otherwise we are no better than them.

That's a message Prudence took on board as she released the fairy Godmother from her, and both she and her mother decided it was time for them to leave Salem. Zari returned to the ship expecting Sara to tell her off, but instead Sara simply said she was there if Zari ever wanted to talk. Both she and us viewers already know that Zari knows she took things a little too far, and will hopefully learn from this experience to do better.

Away from all of this some seeds were sewed for the possibility of Nate leaving the team. He was drafted in to help Ava schmooze the department of defense into giving the Time Bureau more money to help track down and keep time in shape. Of course the person leading the defense departments team was Nate's father Hank and of course this talk came just after Nate and his father had an extremely angry confrontation. Nate decided it'd be best if he wasn't part of the schmoozing so Ava was forced to turn to Gary for help and it didn't go well at all. With Hank demanding proof that magical beings existed, Nate went back to the ship and brought pig Ray along for the meeting (he was turned into a pig by the fairy Godmother) and once the spell had worn off, Ray became human Ray again and Hank was willing to give the Bureau whatever they wanted to make sure he didn't have to see Ray naked again. With Nate having done so well with said schmoozing, Ava offered him a job with the Bureau because she absolutely hates this part of the job and Nate does it so well. He seemed reluctant at first, but with the opportunity in sight of perhaps getting another chance with his dad? Maybe traveling through time just isn't the right thing for Nate right now. Ray seemed to pick up on his friends trepidcation when Nate declines to go back to the ship with him, but it remains to be seen just where exactly this story goes.

And finally I'll drop a few notes on John Constantine. Something very big and scary is clearly out to get him. It's so big and scary that John backed down and decided to join the Legends as a consultant. Said consultancy in this episode involved a back and forth exchange with the fairy Godmother as they both hated each other, and John later trying to bargain with her by offering her the chance to be his fairy Godmother and in exchange he wouldn't sent her to hell. Shockingly enough she declined the ever so kind offer, and instead told John he was even more damned than she is before she got zapped. Given this is only the 2nd episode in, the show is clearly still laying the seeds for what is to come this season. John's a fantastic character and Matt Ryan does so much with him that I love every moment he is on screen. Having said that the show needs to start dropping some answers and soon.

The Virginmarys Release New Single 'Look Out For My Brother' From New Album Out 16th November

Tales Of The Northern Sound... The Virginmarys are back with a new album this November entitled ‘Northern Sun Sessions'.

Hailing from Macclesfield, the band have been hard at it in the studio since the start of the year self producing and creating fresh new works alongside piecing together previously unfinished material, all of which follow the intensity, honesty and urgency that has become a trademark to The Virginmarys sound.

After the success of their debut album ‘King Of Conflict’ and follow up sophomore ‘Divides’produced and mixed by Gil Norton (FooFighters, Pixies), singer/guitarist Ally Dickaty says this third album is his favourite work to date.

‘I’m more excited about this record than any others we’ve done. We’ve created a beast that sounds massive. There’s a lot of freedom in this record, I’ve felt liberated and closer to the spark that had me writing in the first place. We’ve been working so close with these songs from start to finish and it’s felt right pouring ourselves into them. It’s a very special record that feels closest to the energy of our live performance than any before.

The Virginmarys have always endeavoured to remain deeply rooted in their own sound, organically turning away from fads, scenes or indeed anything that steers them away from their own playing styles.

“The whole journey is about communication rather than fame or money,” Dickaty explains,“I feel the anger, boredom and dissatisfaction beneath the surface of everyday life and it channels into the music. I can see it in people I meet from day to day and I feel lucky I can express it through music rather than getting myself into a lot of trouble.”

Amongst the intensity and danger in The Virginmarys sound, there remains a strong sense of vulnerability and social conscience running through the songs that often lyrically express painful and uncomfortable honesty like a rhetoric of dark journey.

“Music keeps me alive and closer to the truth, I don’t know where I’d be without it.
It provides a platform to express thoughts and emotions a lot more effectively and beautifully than words alone. You can make use of dark times in your life and turn them into something incredible that resonates with others", says Dickaty.

'Northern Sun Sessions' was recorded and engineered by by Ally Dickaty at Preach Studios, with drums and big guitars recorded and engineered by Mark Winterburn at Edge Studios. It was mixed by Kemble Walters in Los Angeles and mastered by Mike Kalajian at Rogue Planet in New York.

Drummer Danny Dolan talks about the HEAT!…"We started recording the album at the end of June during the sunniest week we’ve ever experienced in the Northwest", explains Dolan,”the heatwave continued throughout the rest of the recording process in what turned out to be the hottest summer recorded in the UK. It was a really cool omen and added to the specialness of this record given the album title.

The new album ‘Northern Sun Sessions' is released 16th November 2018.

With ‘King of Conflict', The Virginmarys were dubbed the buzz band of SXSW, received major support from US Active Rock and Alternative radio, and press acclaim from Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, USA Today, and more. The band followed up with 2016’s Divides which, in addition to major press, was hailed by Apple Music, Spotify, Yahoo! Music, and more.

The Virginmarys have brought their highly charged live show to tours throughout the US, Europe, and Japan, supporting artists including Queens of the Stone Age, Shinedown, Buckcherry, Eagles of Deathmetal, Crobot, and hitting huge festivals to include Reading & Leeds, Download Festival, Sonisphere, Isle of Wight Festival, and more.

Brooke Law Releases New Single 'See Ya Later'

Released the day before Halloween, Brooke Law’s latest single, “See Ya Later”, is a brilliant fusion of pop, R&B and Asian rhythms. It uses the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme to symbolise a strong independent woman and the queen archetype.

“Women are under a lot of pressure to be a certain type - a good mum, a good wife, not too thin or fat, not too assertive, be humble, be quietly beautiful. I think this makes women automatically think they need some security, doubt themselves or just not go for things in the same way men might. However, women have their own inner strength. We can be independent, reach the top and be with (or not be with) who we want and who makes us feel good.”

Brooke dedicates the Archetypes EP to all women and girls to support them in all they choose to do and be. She gives thanks to all the women who continue to fight for equality, freedom and an end to violence against women and children.

Taking on influences from a number of great musicians such as Annie Lennox to Joan Armatrading to Jeff Buckley, Brooke’s music, like her beliefs, is uncompromising: emotional and direct, it truly comes from the heart – in her own words it’s “gutsy pop”.

Having been obsessed with song-writing since the age of 14, Brooke has developed her style to encompass soul, pop, R&B and Indian influences. Brooke and her band have already started to build a buzz with their first London shows. With an accompanying video due for release in early November, plus a live appearance on November 9th at London’s Century Club, Brooke Law is an artist whose importance and relevance could scarcely be more keenly felt.

Love is in the Air Next Week As Kate and Rana Propose to Each Other on Coronation Street

Who ever knew a cruise could last so long right?

Rana was last seen back in August (31st to be exact) where she and Kate made their peace before Rana set off on a cruise, in the hopes of building bridges with her mother who Kate rather lovingly threatened.

That six week cruise has lasted an awfully long time but thankfully the wait is almost over. This Friday's episode sees Kate confide in Jenny that she plans to propose to Rana when she does return, and great minds think alike as they both end up proposing to each other!

(Picture: ITV)

It all kicks off next Monday when Rana arrives back from her cruise and Jenny calls Kate to give her the heads up. Kate's gutted that her surprise proposal at the port has gone awry, whilst Rana secretly asks Johnny for Kate's hand in marriage (If there's another TV couple that are on the same wavelength as each other to THIS degree, I have yet to meet them).

In the second half of Monday's episode a fandom will jump for joy as Kate and Rana are reunited! They both produce rings! They're both shocked to realize they were both planning a surprise proposal! They both obviously say yes!

(Picture: ITV)

Wednesday nights 1st episode sees Johnny and Jenny throw the happy couple an engagement party but unfortunately it's not all happy times (where is it ever in soap land), as Kate makes a comment on how Rana will be a terrific mum. It's a comment that very much leaves Rana floored and sensing that children isn't on his sisters radar, Imran warns her to tell Kate before it's too late.

(Picture: ITV)

In Wednesday's 2nd episode Rana promises Imran she will talk to Kate, but Friday nights episodes see Kate suggest they do research and look into their options and reveal she's been to Dr Gaddas to find out about IVF and the different options.

Obviously this is Kate and Rana we're talking about here, two people who are completely incapable of being mad at each other for more than 5 minutes, let alone have a disagreement or keep unhappiness secret from each other for too long, so it is only a matter of time before Rana does admit her true feelings to Kate. Question is how exactly will Kate react? Will they be able to meet each other halfway? And more importantly, will Rana be truthful with Kate before she gets too carried away with her plans?

When Faye unwittingly lets slip about the yoga room to a hurt Gina, Tim assures her they need her more now than ever and she’s going nowhere. As Geoff watches Gina flirt with Tim, he takes Tim to one side, warning him that Gina has got feelings for him.

(Picture: ITV)

When Tyrone states their living arrangements aren’t working, a worried Evelyn tells Tyrone how grateful she is but realises she’s outstayed her welcome. His conscience pricked, will Tyrone relent?

(Picture: ITV)

When Carla reveals she’s off to Nottingham to check out his restaurant, Nick talks her out of it, promising to tell all. Nick says he did a mate a favour and for tax reasons, agreed to become joint partner with his mate’s wife, Elsa. Nick calls Elsa, lying that his Mum is ill and he has to stay. Circuit Judge Leonard joins Paula, Julian and Sophie in Speed Daal. As the ‘in jokes’ fly Sophie’s sidelined and when Leonard pushes his glass towards her, expecting her to fill it, Sophie loses her rag. Paula points out she’s just insulted the Judge who could preside over Sally’s trial, Sophie’s heart sinks. Rana promises Imran she’ll speak to Kate.

Tracy agrees to go for lunch in town with Steve on condition he sorts Abi out with a job on the switch at Street Cars. Back home after a good lunch date Steve is about to give Tracy her wedding ring to put back on when Amy walks in and is incredulous.

(Picture: ITV)

Tim and Gina visit Sally in prison. When Tim makes a point of telling Sally how much he loves her, Gina realises with horror that he’s worked out her feelings for him.

Finally, when Kate suggests they do some baby research and look at the options,

On Thursday, Jan. 3, THE ORVILLE makes its time period premiere with an all-new episode (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following the fifth and final season premiere of GOTHAM (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), which wraps up the beloved series in a farewell event that will focus on Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz) ultimate transformation into the Caped Crusader, as Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) tries to hold together a city on the edge of chaos‎. FOX also has ordered two additional episodes of the hit series, raising the season order to 12 episodes, and bringing the full series order to 100 episodes. Following the events of last season, the fifth season, titled “GOTHAM: Legend of the Dark Knight,” will pick up with Gotham City split amongst Gordon and the GCPD, and some of the most notorious fan-favorite villains, as the heroes try to gain control and salvage what’s left of the deteriorating city. This season will also introduce new villains, including the iconic Bane (guest star Shane West). GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller and executive producers Danny Cannon and John Stephens, GOTHAM follows the rise of Det. James Gordon through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time. The series, from Warner Bros. Television, stars Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, David Mazouz, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Erin Richards, Camren Bicondova, Cory Michael Smith and Chris Chalk.

Epic thriller THE PASSAGE debuts Monday, Jan. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following the winter premiere of THE RESIDENT (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). Based on author Justin Cronin’s best-selling trilogy of the same name, THE PASSAGE is an expansive, character-driven thriller written by Liz Heldens (“Friday Night Lights”). Executive-produced by Heldens, Emmy Award winner and Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Ridley Scott (“The Martian,” “Gladiator”) and writer/director Matt Reeves (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Cloverfield”), THE PASSAGE focuses on Project Noah, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease, but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race. When a young girl (Saniyya Sidney, “Fences,” “Hidden Figures”) is chosen to be a test subject, a federal agent (Mark-Paul Gosselaar, “Pitch”) is tasked with bringing her in, but ultimately, becomes her surrogate father, determined to protect her at any cost – even as Project Noah’s work threatens to unleash an unimaginable apocalypse.
