Here at CONTROLRadioUK we're always on the look-out for music be it for the playlist, or just because we think the tracks are pretty neat. And on New Music Friday, we're bringing you a select choice of the freshest tracks released this week.
On Wednesday, you might have noticed that Panic! at the Disco announced they were back with 2 brand new songs, an album AND a tour. It's possible that I may happen to be extremely excited about this. Whilst (Fuck) A Silver Lining is an absolute jam, I had to include Say Amen (Saturday Night) here in New Music Friday. This is the type of music video that only certain Artists can get away with, without it losing its humour and coming across as being cringey. The fact the video ends with Brendon being kicked in the nuts, beat up by his date & key stolen? Just genius.
Another band making a comeback of sorts is Kodaline. Their last album was released back in 2015, and they released an EP last year called I Wouldn't Be. Along the way 'Brother' was released last year to acclaim and Follow Your Fire should follow in its footsteps. It's a different sound to Kodaline's previous records, and stronger for it. The verses build up to an anthemic chorus, the music sounds fresh and the video is pretty neat as well. All in all, I can't wait to see what the new album brings us.
At this point, I feel it would be more of a surprise if I didn't feature a song from The Vaccines in New Music Friday. I am beyond ready for Combat Sports to grace our ears. Your Love is my Favourite Band has a bit of a 70's feel to it, which is echoed a bit with the live session video. I'd say the only worry with dropping so many singles is there won't be anything left once the album is released, but it's The Vaccines! That's just not the type of problem they have.
Falling Into Me is a musical experience. There's no other way to describe it, and this is coming from a person who was extremely wary to click a song from a band with Let's eat Grandma as its name. The music is extremely psychedelic in nature in places, but then it changes things up midway from the song and goes in a completely different direction. Lyrically it follows the same pattern, starting off in one direction and going somewhere completely different, and then switching things up again It's extremely pleasing on the ears, and the type of musical experience I am thankful to my work at CONTROLRadioUK opening me up to.
How could I finish this weeks New Music Friday with anything but this? Flames dropped last night and is every bit as fantastic as a David Guetta & Sia team up should be. As noted in yesterdays article, the song is everything you'd expected from the. Sia's soaring vocals being put to excellent use, inspiring lyrics and some fresh beats. Musically it's not as soaring as the likes of 'Titanium' and 'She Wolf' which I think is a good thing. No-one expected Titanium to be as big as it was and whilst She Wolf was an excellent track, it did feel a tad repetitive and thankfully Flames doesn't have that problem.
