Here at CONTROLRadioUK we're always on the look-out for music be it for the playlist, or just because we think the tracks are pretty neat. And on New Music Friday, we're bringing you a select choice of the freshest tracks released this week.
We are now very much approaching summer, so it's of course time for Pop/Dance songs to take over the airwaves. It's an extremely polluted market full of repetitive, bordering tedious songs, so it's always great when a song manages to stand out in the crowd. Riley Clemmons isn't an Artist I've come across before, but 'Better For It' is a fantastic song. Musically it's a nice mix of genres, builds to actually go somewhere, the lyrics are catchy and tell a pretty neat story. The video doesn't exactly match the lyrics and is lacking a bit storywise, but none of it detracts away from the song.
Sometimes you just come across a song that is totally you. 'Screw' is most definitely one of those songs. Very reminiscent in its nature to another of my favourite bands Naked and Famous, and given this is the first time I've ever heard of Dreamer? It's a great introduction to them. They will also be setting off on tour later this year which you can find more details on here and 'Screw' absolutely needs to be rooted to your bank holiday party playlist. It does an excellent job of producing a track full of surprises, with many different genres of music all mixed seamlessly together and a chorus that will very much get stuck in your head.
Good Charlotte are a band I haven't heard of since my teen rock era, but they have been regularly producing new music over the last few years. 'Actual Pain' isn't anywhere near as painful as the title suggests. It's once again a lovely mix of musical genres (yes this is another new music Friday where I've accidentally created a theme), heartfelt and somewhat poignant lyrics and an epic instrumental break as the song reaches its climax.
Am I really excited for "Pray For The Wicked's" release? Most definitely. All of the pre-album releases have so far been fantastic and 'High Hopes' is no different. It's got the typical anthemic chorus that Panic! At The Disco does so well, and gets better the more you listen to it. Goldfrapp is another Artist I haven't listened to since my great teen years, but she has still been releasing songs on a regular basis. Breaking away from the Pop/Rock fest of this weeks New Music Friday 'Ocean' is an extremely moody, dare I even say haunting song. Absolutely excellent and I wouldn't be surprised to hear this featuring on a TV show at some point in the future. 'Ocean' sees her dueting with Dave Gahan and their voices combine effortlessly and beautifully. Neither overpowers each other or the message of the song, letting the music very much speak for itself and it is lovely to listen to.
