Coronation Street Review: "Facing The Truth"

First things first in all of my criticism over last nights episode, I totally missed Rana's blink and you'll miss it (which I certainly did) appearance. Girl is looking great.

Now on with tonight's episode. It's very much fair to say this week hasn't at all lived up to the hype which has been extremely disappointed, but we are now so to speak on the home front. Phelan is loose. Chaos is abound. Granted it's still not completely interesting and dare I say this may surprisingly be the most boring week Coronation Street has producer in a long time, but finally, things are hotting up.

At this point some including myself have been so fed up with how slow the week is, we're actively rooting for Phelan. So an episode opening on him threatening to kill Gary and Sarah? That's a really good starter. Sarah was indeed forced to call Nicola, only she hadn't actually called Nicola she called Kevin. Not being the brightest toy in the box, he simply puts the phone call down to Sarah being confused instead of life being in grave danger.

Phelan though hasn't got where he's got without being a smart cookie. He realizes Sarah hasn't actually called Nicola and is soon back to threatening her and Gary's lives. With Nicola and Zac not coming to him, Phelan decides to go to them. The fact he's just strolling through the streets with no-one around? I'm gonna excuse because at least things are actually interesting. He's soon knocking on Eileen's door and being greeted by Nicola.

Eileen and Nicola can only stand back as Phelan waltz's into the house to see his grandson. He may be a serial killer and whatnot, but still in his warped mind, he's got a heart of gold. His family completely abandoned him and he hates them just as much as they hate him, but he loves his grandson and he's to an extent the apple of his world. Nicola though warns Phelan that he'll have to kill her if he wants to get anywhere near Zac and really, at this point, she shouldn't be daring her father to kill her. Continuing with his warped head, Phelan actually gets annoyed that Nicola refusing to cuddle her crying son. Nicola though has more balls than half of the street. She refuses to back down even with a gun pointed at her and Phelan's philosophical ramblings.

Michelle meanwhile is beside herself at Robert leaving. It takes an extra minute for to realize that Robert did actually witness Steve attempting to kiss her, and orders him to go and get Robert back. Quite amusing to see Steve looking so sheepish now at Michelle revealing all in the middle of the street, given he wasn't really caring about who heard when he was airing his concerns over Michelle's relationship before.

But what we do get out of this? MORE OF KATE AND RANA. Seriously, angry Kate yelling at Steve for throwing a spanner in the works by kissing Michelle and Rana and Jenny looking on so stunned is something I never knew I needed. But it does make Steve realize he's going to need reinforcements to bring Robert back and enlists help. Honestly if they'd dropped Rosie's drug plot and replace that with showing us the Connor ladies getting ready for the wedding and them all taking it in turns to give Steve an ear bashing for his actions, I would've appreciated it. And I also have to shout out to Carla being so furious with Steve for messing up the day and ordering him around. Never change Carla! And I'm also gonna note once again that this is still the absolute longest wedding and day in soap history.

The big plan to get Robert to come back? Hijacking the local radio station and issuing a plea to Robert. Full credit to the radio presenter for acknowledging the fact he would probably be fired for this, but at least it's a different way to win a person back. Like forget cards, flowers and serenading, let's just take over a radio!

Carla and Michelle are the OTP that should actually be, but if we can't have them then at least we can have Carla offering moral support with Michelle full of doubts. Kate makes her 2nd appearance of the night judging Michelle for using a radio to win Robert back, but hey! The day is saved because he is actually back.

Having missed out on last night's events, we're back with Josh tonight who was questioned by police and refused to give comment on David's allegations. David's later informed by the police Josh has been released without charge. Extremely unfortunate but a realistic consequence of events. It does though prompt David to finally reveal all to Gail and Audrey.

It is a bit of a shame we didn't actually get a scene of David spilling his soul to his mother and grandmother, and instead just get the aftermath of that but all actors involved still do a marvelous job. Gail's understandably upset that she didn't realize just why her son was suffering in silence, but David doesn't want her guilt and is instead just glad for himself that he has finally told them the truth.

And the biggest shock of the night? ANNA. IS. BACK. YEP! ANNA WINDASS IS HERE! Regardless of whether you like her or not, her appearance in the episode was a welcome surprise. Rescuing Gary and Sarah not so much but I'll forgive her.

As Michelle and Robert make up, the wedding is back on, Gary and Sarah are rescued, the tension is still quite high at Eileen's and a struggle breaks out. A gun shot of course rings out and tomorrow we shall find out just who exactly was shot, how exactly Phelan will meet his maker and if the wedding actually happens.

Clayton Morgan Signs With MTS + Debut Single "Taste for Love" to Be Released 29th June

Clayton Morgan, son of Four Sonics great, has signed with MTS Management Group for exclusive publicity and promotions of his upcoming release, "Taste For Love."

I can only imagine the memories he has of his father, and the pride he must feel in his musical legacy. That's the feeling you get when you listen to the man sing.”
— Michael Stover, President, MTS Management Group

DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, May 30, 2018/ -- Clayton Morgan is history in the re-making, but with a fresh new flavor for 2018. Growing up, the son of Eddie Daniels, a founding member of legendary 60s Detroit pop group, The Four Sonics, Clayton knew from a young age that music was in his blood. He greatly admired what his father had accomplished with The Four Sonics, and the impact that the iconic soul foursome had on the world. Clayton often envisioned following in his father's footsteps...

Now, MTS Management Group is happy to welcome Clayton Morgan to the MTS Family of artists. Morgan has signed for exclusive publicity and promotions representation with the award-winning company. Morgan's debut single, "Taste for Love" is scheduled for worldwide release June 29, 2018. Morgan will be undertaking a media blitz to promote the single. A full-length release is planned for later in the year.

"From the moment I heard Clayton Morgan's vocals, I knew there was an old soul-quality to his tone and delivery," said Michael Stover, President of MTS. "I can only imagine the memories he has of his father, and the pride he must feel in his musical legacy. That's the feeling you get when you listen to the man sing."

An official lyric video and full-production music video are in the works for June release.

Music played a big role in Clayton Morgan's upbringing, both at home and at school. Clayton was regularly part of school musicals, choir groups and drama clubs. Outside of school, he always looked up to his father as his mentor and was also heavily influenced by a wide range of singers, including Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, Madonna and Whitney Houston, to name a few. All of these ingredients combined, have no doubt, been the main contributing factor toward Clayton's unique and authentic vocal style.

Hayley Kiyoko Releases 'What I Need' Video Featuring Kehlani

There is very much a reason why Hayley Kiyoko is the Queen of 20GayTeen. 'What I Need' is one of the best songs from "Expectations" and the video as always more than delivers on the hype. She's got a great vision not only as a singer-songwriter but also as a director, having directed nearly all of her music videos. It pays off in dividends as Hayley very much has a vision for the story of her songs, and allows the videos to act as a further enhancement of them.

Here we see her and Kehlani taking a road trip following Kehlani's aunt kicking her out, and the two girls have a lot of fun. You can check out the video below and let us know your thoughts!

Blue River Saga to Release New Single 'For Now'

Sitting comfortably in-between Alternative and Pop, Blue River Saga debut their latest release For Now. Anchored by a punchy rhythm section and driven by brightly expressed guitars that lay the bed for the distinctly empathetic vocals, For Now throws the listener into a rich, melancholic and retrospective viewpoint formed by a past relationship that may have deserved a second chance.

"Usually there are two sides to this type of story and I've always found it interesting to write from the perspective of both parties involved, so there is definitely no villain in this one." - comments vocalist Wil Maisey.

Undeniably emotive with a nostalgic edge, Blue River Saga consists of Chris Wood (Guitars + Production), Wil Maisey (Lead vocals + Guitar), Jamie Bourke (Bass + Vocals) and Ian Cifuentes (Drums).

The Sydney based four-piece have spent the last 12 months recording multiple songs in their guitarist's home studio - "There's only so much you can do with fancy gear. It's all about creating a space where the band feel they can get to work, whether that's writing or tracking. We feel like we have achieved that and it should show in the songs" - says guitarist Chris Wood - who confidently labels them as the 'Saga sessions’.

Since the group's impressive debut single Wounds (2014), the band have endeavoured to expand their fanbase while playing shows in and around Sydney at various venues - culminating in the release of their EP The Deep End in 2016.

Blue River Saga's sound has often been described as “An excellent example of acoustic and electric guitar synergy, with a voice that always permeates through the mix” which allows them to seamlessly fit into various artist lineups with ease.

During early 2017 the group decided to go the DIY route by producing and tracking future recordings in their guitarist's home studio - resulting in the band reaching the semi-finals of the ISC (International Songwriting Competition) with the gritty, yet ethereal Desert.

2018 will be a busy year for Blue River Saga, as they intend to consistently release more music over the next 12 months with upcoming shows to be announced.

Gus Harrower To Release New Single 'Wonder' Tomorrow

GUS HARROWER RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE ‘WONDER’ RELEASE DATE - 1st June

Following press acclaim for his previous releases, a Single of The Week with Janice Forsyth at BBC Radio Scotland and a Scottish Alternative Music Awards nomination, teenage singer-songwriter Gus Harrower returns today with his infectious, buoyant new single Wonder.

“I wrote Wonder after seeing how invested people become in the mundane minutiae of the lives of celebrities” explains the young singer-songwriter. “It bewilders me how we get so dragged in to stories of relationships, pregnancies and those of general gossip rather than focusing on the bigger matters around the world.”

Gus Harrower is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s most innovative young musicians. Since the release of his debut EP in 2015 at the tender age of 16, he has become a regular feature of the Edinburgh music scene and has made a name for himself performing in iconic venues like Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s, Glasgow’s 02 Academy, and most notably, London’s Wembley Arena. He kick-started 2018 with his sophomore EP Where We Were venturing into a darker, more politicised approach to songwriting without sacrificing his natural gifts for pure pop melodies - a trend which continues today with the release of Wonder.

The Filthy Tongues New Single 'Come on Home' is Out Now

Come on Home (Neon Tetra Records : Out Now) is the brand new single from former BBC Scotland single of the week band The Filthy Tongues.

Back to Hell is the brand new studio album from one of Scotland’s finest bands, The Filthy Tongues. (May 25th : Neon Tetra / Blokshok Records)

It follows on from a remarkable twelve months for the band, that saw their single Holy Brothers (taken from the 2016 album Jacobs Ladder) named as a Single of the Week on BBC Scotland’s Janice Forsyth show.

Back to Hell is a drippingly dark masterpiece from a band who were involved in the co-writing of four tracks on the latest Skids album. It takes us on a journey through the dank closes and stairwells of the Old Town in Edinburgh and all that goes with it. Delving deeper into the seething underbelly of the city with menace, gritty lyrics and claustrophobic soundscapes in spades. Repetitive blues-influenced grooves again form the bedrock around which edgy guitar, piano, organ and strings jag, stab and soar.

Lyrically it’s as enigmatic and gritty as ever while Susannah Clark’s haunting strings bring even more to the feast. The Ghost of Rab McVie mourns the gentrification of Leith and good times/bad times gone. Mother’s Got A Knife, where the corrupt patriarchy gets its comeuppance, Carlos the Jackal and title track Back to Hell similarly continue the cinematic appeal of Jacob’s Ladder, just a rung or two higher. Think Bad Seeds in full swing or the soundtrack to a particularly tense Peaky Blinders climax.

'The most complex, fascinating musical footprint of any Scottish band yet’ - The List magazine

The Filthy Tongues have occupied a unique place at the heart of Scottish alternative rock, in various manifestations, since the mid 80’s. Martin Metcalfe, Fin Wilson and Derek Kelly were the core-members of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, a stunning live band with Metcalfe resembling the MC of a debauched, vaguely gothic cabaret, which effortlessly churned out pop classics, sinister dark Blues and full-blown stadium-fitting anthems.

The band regularly attract 5 star reviews and plays on BBC6 Music. The band also featured on the soundtrack to Skids frontman turned director, Richard Jobson’s New Town Killers film and caught the ear of Hollywood in David Mackenzie’s film Spread.

Live dates :

1st June – St Lukes, Glasgow

Coronation Street Review: "Runaway Groom"

So far this special week of episodes? Not exactly special. There might be program warnings about violence and strong emotions as Coronation Street has sought to take advantage of the 9pm shift change, but it just hasn't been that interesting so far which is a massive shame.

Given we are now officially halfway through the week tonight's episode had to up the pace.

We began with Robert crestfallen at the belief that Michelle had cheated on him, and at the bistro Michelle and Steve were arguing over the pass he's just made at her. Steve's full of apologies at first claiming the moment just came over him but is soon back to slating Robert and Michelle doesn't want to hear a word of it. Again Steve's rekindled feelings for Michelle have come somewhat out of the blue, as there's been no recent inclination he was still harboring feelings for her. Taking a shot at Robert's so called vanity was also a bit of a low blow and honestly this drama is just completely cliched and redundant.

Sarah was also forced to somewhat confess her killer secret to Gary, very much still annoyed over Phelan being locked up in the builder's yard. He attempted to bargain with young Jack in an attempt to get himself freed. The whole point of Sarah's confession though is not wanting Gary to make the same mistakes she did. Killing Callum and having to live with the fact he was buried in the house sent her over the edge. Gary is a wee bit understandably clouded by his anger for Phelan getting Anna banged up, and basically making their lives a misery from the off.

Unfortunately for Phelan, Sarah and Gary did return to the builders yard in the nick of time to stop him completely cutting Phelan free. Fortunately for Phelan their efforts were worthless.

David meanwhile decided to get rid of oblivious Alya once and for all, and gave Shona permission to tell her the truth about Josh raping him. It very much left Alya in two minds over what exactly to believe, having heard two very different sides of the story. This is probably the only part where I do actually feel some sympathy for Alya. She's very much been put through the ringer and now she's having the bombshell dropped on her that the first man she let into her heart since Luke's death, is actually a rapist who used their relationship for cover.

Our favourite Connor ladies meanwhile are continuing in their preparations for Michelle's wedding, and of course Ryan and Ali are very soon butting heads. Michelle's refusing to let anyone ruin her wedding day, but that's already been done since Robert is licking his wounds at the belief she has cheated on him. It's again all really contrived drama, and in any other circumstance? Walking in on your fiance's ex kissing her would result in a punch up and everyone getting on with their day.

As Britains Got Talent is such a big ratings winner for ITV, shifting Coronation Street from it's 7:30pm & 8:30pm time slots to take advantage of the big ratings does to an extent make sense. The problem though is as good as Coronation Street is? It doesn't really have enough in the vault to make these special weeks work. It hasn't really taken advantage of the late time-slot so far to really push the boundaries of storytelling. We already know in advance that most of Phelan's horrors won't be kicking off until Thursday & Friday, which means we have 3 days of basically filler. The episode's are all hyped around Phelan being the main event so he has to feature in some capacity up to that point, in order to keep the momentum going.

But Michelle and Robert's wedding drama is extremely contrived. It's made Steve look completely and utterly terrible, and Robert hasn't exactly been painted in a sympathetic light either. David finally summoning the courage to go to the police and have Josh arrested is really the most interesting storyline of the week. He's ever so slowly inch by inch making progress and Jack is very much nailing the storyline. BGT weeks can be very much hit and miss for Corrie and granted this week certainly hasn't been as bad as some of the specials in the past. But for all the hype, it really hasn't lived up to expectations so far.

Back to tonight though and Alya is massively in disbelief over what she's heard. Shona continues to stand resolutely in David's corner, but Alya doesn't really want to hear it and again, her position in this is understandable.

Phelan meanwhile bought himself a bit of time with Gary far too focused on all the bad things he wants to do to Phelan, and not picking up on the fact he is stalling because he knows Gary doesn't truly have it in him. Upping the taunting Phelan made some rather derogatory comments about Anna and he does finally do what Phelan wants, which is lash out at him. Being a caring grandfather for two minutes Phelan is very interested to know all about his grandson and Nicola being OK.

Daniel meanwhile caught Robert legging it out of town, deciding to go off and stay with his best friend Zeedan. Again this is a simply misunderstanding that could've quite simply been sorted by a bit of communication, and we know that he is gonna come back and the ceremony go ahead in some form, though whether they actually get married is to be determined. Sarah meanwhile had enough and decided they needed to call the police. Unfortunately that's no longer an option with Phelan very much on the loose now to no-one's surprise.

With the Connor's making their way to the Bistro, it was left to Daniel to break the news to Carla that Robert has runaway and Michelle finally realizes that he overheard her moment of sorts with Steve. Once again deciding against actually calling the police, Sarah and Gary instead locked themselves into the builders yard with Phelan who decided to take them hostage. Phelan's request is quite simple; he wants to see his grandson and tomorrow night will obviously be spent with him actually going on a rampage.

Black Sedan Announce New Single 'All Fall Down' to be Released 27th July

Taken from the current album Adventure Lit Their Star, the first single from the album featured on Mark Radcliffe’s and Gideon Coe’s BBC 6 Music shows in early summer.

The album, Adventure Lit Their Star, is furiously varied with no less than five vocalists and upwards of 30 contributing musicians. In its down tempo, cut-up moments it evokes Boards of Canada, The Avalanches, UNKLE, The Sound Defects, Tommy Guerrero or Christopher Goze but when it’s upfront and at-you, it’s as simple and direct as power pop maestros Nada Surf, Material Issue, Army Navy, Oh Sees or The Shout Out Louds. And, of course, there’s always Hawkwind – Black Sedan cover Robert Calvert’s The Right Stuff, and This Is Your Captain Speaking: Your Captain Is Alive is, near enough, a tribute to space rock’s finest.

‘‘Almost always, you can tell what an album is going to sound like after the first two or three tracks,’’ says Mark . ‘‘I think a record should be eclectic and challenging, every song taking you somewhere else. I am a huge music fan with thousands of records and two iPods full of music. I’ve tried to bring a bit of absolutely everything to the record.’’

The opening number is Love on Love featuring lengthy samples from Charlie Chaplin’s famous speech in the film, The Great Dictator. ‘‘I saw the film about 10 years ago and became obsessed with the power and prescience of the speech. Since then, I’ve tried numerous ways to make it work properly as a song. At one point I set it against David Bowie’s Be My Wife but his management wanted a huge portion of the publishing, so I had to start all over again,’’ he says.

The new version, produced by the highly respected Sean McGhee (Alanis Morissette, Britney Spears etc) has a chorus ‘borrowed’ from Nada Surf’s Blonde on Blonde. ‘‘I’ve had permission from Chaplin’s estate and Nada Surf, and, with Sean’s invaluable input, I think we’ve now framed perfectly the message within a haunting three-minute pop song.’’

Singer on Love on Love and four more tracks is Kellie While, better known in folk circles for her work with Thea Gilmore, Richard Thompson, Fairport Convention, Martin Simpson and the out-there, Reel and Soul Association.

The other main vocalist is John Matthews, frontman with the newly-re-formed Manchester band, The High. ‘‘Kellie is a great singer,’’ says Mark ‘‘She’s not as steeped in the indie shtick as I am, so she takes the songs off somewhere completely unexpected. I’ve loved John’s singing for years and years, right back to when he played in a local [to Manchester] band called Turning Blue. His voice is unusually vulnerable and as honest as he is.’’

Despite being advised to put a suitably ‘indie-ish and enigmatic’ picture on the album cover, Mark, who has played in many nearly-made-it bands, decided to use a close-up of his face. ‘‘I always do everything with passion and heart to my absolute limit but would hate to be perceived as a show-off. I hate doing gigs and, if possible, would position myself behind the drummer. This record is so me, though, that I’ve decided to metaphorically face the world – as if it’s bothered! I’ve always been scared of criticism or, worse, indifference but I’m all grown up now and that means saying this is what I am, this is what I love, so be it!’’

Other major players on the record include Geoff Read, Miles Moss, Christian Brett and Terry Eves. ‘‘Everyone brought with them their own style of playing or interpretation of what I asked of them, and then trusted me to shape it into a great big slab of lovely, thought-provoking music,’’ says Mark. ‘‘I’ve been told the album is a ‘hard sell’ which is disappointing because originality should be coveted and then supported, not considered a fearful challenge.’’

After the album is released Mark faces a busy 2018. His new novel, That Summer Feeling, is published in August.

Keith James to Release New Single 'Anthem' on 8th June + UK Tour Dates

“Last evening I had the pleasure of hearing Keith James for the first time. It was a truly magical and blessed experience and wonderful to be in the presence of his music and spirit.”
- Concert Review

Keith James

‘Anthem’
Released 8th June 2018

Taken from the album

Captured
The Best of Keith James

You will be forgiven for perhaps not having heard of Keith James before now. He is fiercely independent and therefore his career has for many years, existed in a parallel universe, almost under wraps, esoteric and secretive. He has enjoyed very little radio exposure, he doesn’t easily fit into any music category, he has never signed a recording or publishing deal.

And yet, he has released some 13 albums, all self-produced and self-published, and he consistently performs upward of 100 shows annually to sell-out crowds. Now he even has a ‘Best Of’ album…

“Some of the most atmospheric and emotive music you will ever hear”
- The Independent

Born into a musical family in Salisbury, Wiltshire, Keith’s career was only going to go in one direction. A very accomplished sound man with a BBC Maida Vale background, he worked for more than a decade as a record producer (1991-2004), working on albums with many of this country’s profoundly talented musicians and writers.

“Musicians brave enough to make the music they really believe in. Keith James is one of these.” - Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2

Realising his definite preference for live performance and following a detailed study, 2001 witnessed Keith begin a UK wide tour of concerts based entirely on his love of the songwriter Nick Drake. As Nick’s music had never been heard live by today’s music audience (he died in 1974) these concerts soon became a huge success; over the course of 15 years, Keith has now played over 2000 of these shows; in the UK, Ireland, Holland, Spain, Italy and France, all of Nick’s colleges and almost every British acoustic music festival including Glastonbury.

“Meticulous dissection of Nick Drake’s idiosyncratic guitar techniques, handled with surgical precision” - Northern Sky

On from this, Keith has performed many different concerts over the past 10 years. Each one centres on studies and transcriptions of revered Poets and Writers and includes a significant amount of bio-doc material. The most notable of these are 2 CD Albums and 2 hugely successful tours featuring the Poetry of Lorca set to music – The Gypsy Ballads 1928 and Poet in New York 1930. Other important projects are a CD Album and concert tour featuring a collection of Poetry by Dylan Thomas and an ongoing busy schedule of bio-doc concerts spanning over 6 years performing interpretive versions of songs by Leonard Cohen…

“I have taken great care to visit each song on it’s own terms, stripped back to it’s central core and original, fragile sense of purpose by performing each song as near to the way it was originally written, exposing Cohen’s unprecedented sense of humanity” - Keith James

Over the past six years, Keith has performed an extensive tour of The Songs Of Leonard Cohen in theatres and arts centres across the UK, giving close to 400 performances to what has amounted to more than 100,000 people. Singing his bare and passionate interpretations of these masterfully written songs has proved to be the greatest honour of Keith’s 40 year career in music.

“Certainly the UK’s most celebrated and evocative interpreter of golden music”

- The Guardian

“Keith James has become a pillar of trust. A sublimely intimate and engaging voice”

- The Sunday Times

Coronation Street Review: "Speaking Up"

Tonight Coronation Street aired the 2nd of its special week long episodes, and it's fair to say it was certainly more eventful than last night.

Ryan is now back on the street, though Michelle is continuing to have her doubts over the wedding despite Roberts attempts at reassuring her. Steve is of course still sniffing around like a bit of a bad smell, still very much under the impression Michelle is in the dark.

David with Shona's support went to the police and reported Josh for raping him. The scenes were extremely well acted by Jack Shepherd and had to watch as David was forced to relive his rape. When the storyline was first announced it was noted that they were doing this to raise awareness for male rape, and unfortunately part of that awareness lies in extremely intrusive questions. David struggled to answer some of the police officer's questions which was completely understandable, along with unloading some of the emotions he feels over what happened. Wishing that you could've stopped it happening to you is unfortunately a reaction that many victims of rape have.

He obviously has a lot of 'what if's' on his head that will never be answered. Fortunately though David isn't completely blaming himself for what happened, as he knows he isn't the first victim of Josh's and tells the officer that, even if he can't divulge the name. After so many weeks of his emotions being bottled up, struggling with himself, those around him, and trying to comprehend Josh's assault, it's a truly empowering moment for David as he admits out loud that Josh did in fact rape him and he is prepared to testify that in court.

Just like with Aidan's suicide, I hope this episode serves as support to victims. You are NEVER alone. Speaking up is truly the most difficult thing you can do, but as soon as you do, a massive weight will be lifted off your shoulders. No-one should have to suffer with anything in silence, and there are always organizations available for you to talk.

Josh meanwhile is continuing to drip poison into Alya's ear, with his version of events that he and David slept together. He paints the picture of Shona being jealous of him and David sleeping together, David being in denial of what happened and plays Alya's shock of the revelations off as being politically incorrect. He's truly a repulsive character but played so well by the actor. Despite these 'revelations' Alya still has no interest in restarting her relationship with Josh.

One thing that should be noted though is Alya bringing up Rana, when she comments that she thought David was straight just like she thought Rana was. The intention of this scene is to obviously highlight just how ignorant Alya is to the truth around her, but still comparing Rana's relationship with Kate to Josh's 'dalliance' with David? Not the smartest move by her, and certainly not from the writers who should know better.

The police are soon though knocking on Josh's door and I think we're all cheering as he's arrested.

Sarah managed to finally drag Gary off to the hospital to see his newborn baby, leaving Phelan all alone in the builders yard and that obviously didn't go well. Toyah meanwhile was stunned to discover Johnny in the pub and saying hello to Suzie, his unbeknownst grand-daughter. Toyah's obviously very nervous by this conversation, but unfortunately for her, all her behaviour is doing is causing suspicion. Throughout this whole saga Toyah has been written in a rather unlikeable fashion, and the sooner the baby reveal is made the better.

Having visited Nicola at the hospital Gary is keen to return to the builder's yard but that's obviously not going to happen because Phelan does have to get himself free to reign loose on the street. Little old Jack of course breaks into the builder's yard and he of course frees Phelan.

As Michelle continued to fret over the wedding, Jenny gave her a rather lovely 'something borrowed' gift in the shape of something that belong to Aidan. Michelle is very much continuing to worry that getting married so soon after her cousin's death isn't a good idea. Her trepidation is of course understandable given emotions are still so high, and of course Steve pops up at the Bistro at the right moment to spill all of Robert's 'secrets'. Steve tells Michelle everything he knows and is stunned that Michelle actually knows everything, and is still willing to marry Robert. Again his insert into this storyline feels incredibly forced.

Steve proclaims that he's just feeling guilty and caring about Michelle, but I just don't care. What we do get out of all this though is Michelle bearing her soul and telling Steve she doesn't want to hate him anymore. Of course Robert happens to walk in as Steve attempts to kiss Michelle, whilst proclaiming she deserves so much more. Of course he walks out before Michelle actually pushes Steve off and not to once again bring it up, but THIS is a fine example of showing someone being in shock and then rejecting a kiss. Not that mess David Issac treated us to.

Whilst the pace was still a bit slow since it is only Tuesday and we still have 3 more nights of this weeks special left, it was still far more interesting than last nights events. Josh has finally been outed and carted off (though granted that won't be for long). Phelan will soon be on the loose wreaking an almighty havoc. Steve was still a bit of a dummy but we have to make some type of allowance. David is slowly beginning to move forward with a doting Shona by his side, and we continued to get mentions of Aidan, who would've no doubt been heavily involved in the wedding.

Eurovision Semi-Finalists And Pop Songwriting Duo Fitzsimon And Brogan Sign With MTS

Based in London, Neil Fitzsimon and Bee Brogan aim to produce “pure pop for now people.” Neil and Bee were both members of the band, Pretty Blue Gun, who were signed to an indie label, licensed to Sony. They released two albums which were critically acclaimed. Some of the guest musicians included members of The Art of Noise, Dave Bronze (Eric Clapton’s bass player), Tobias Boshell (Moody Blues) and Pip Williams, who played guitar on the Walker Brothers’ track, ‘No Regrets’. The albums were produced by Pat Collier, who produced Katrina and the Waves’ international hit, ‘Walking on Sunshine’. The band went on national tours across the UK, until disbanding.

Neil Fitzsimon, the songwriter, and Bee Brogan, the vocalist, then went on to form a songwriting/production partnership that led to placement of their songs in Film and TV. They also wrote a musical, Jack Dagger, which was showcased at the Greenwich Theatre, London for the Musical Futures Award. It was also showcased at the Bridewell and the Royal College of Music in London. They have also just had a song placed in a USA Sci-Fi Feature film. They recently had a track reach number 3 in a French national download chart.

All songs are written by Neil Fitzsimon. Vocals, keyboards, drums and engineering by Bee Brogan. All guitars played by Neil Fitzsimon.

Inertia to Release New Single 'Air' on June 1st

Inertia, the dreamy indie rockers from Newcastle, have announced their debut single Air. To celebrate the release, they will be playing their first headline gig of 2018 at The Cambridge Hotel in Newcastle, alongside good friends Sienna Lace and Skyepaint (Aka Amos Wellings).

Inertia initially began when 90Deg Studio Resident Artist Liam Gray started releasing music on his own in 2017 under the name. After releasing a handful of successful singles on his own, he teamed up with Chris Barnett and Callum Schuck to form a trio. Liam had met Chris and Callum at the pub and the three decided they would meet at a rehearsal studio once a week, which is how they formed the current three piece. Their new single Air is reminiscent of a dreamy/spacey Matt Corby song with Tash Sultana-ish guitar solos.

Air is about the frustrations that come with feeling trapped in a dreary or depressing daily routine and as a result, not having time for all the important things in life. It’s about wanting to change they way you live your life but not knowing how to break out of your daily routine, as well as being slightly fearful of change.

In late 2017 the Inertia played several shows showcasing the newly formed band in their hometown. Following their 2017 success, the band are keeping busy with release of new bangers and shows across the country, hope to see you there!

Upcoming Shows
June 24th - The Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle

For Fans Of: Matt Corby | Tash Sultana | Sticky Fingers

‘Air’ will be in Digital Stores on the 1st of June 2018.

Military Wives Choirs to Release New Single 'Brave' Featuring Laura Wright on 29th June + Album Tracklisting

MILITARY WIVES CHOIRS

Announce new First World War Commemorative Centenary album

‘BRAVE’
Taken from the forthcoming album ‘Remember’

Single & Album released 29th June 2018

1105 female voices unite to remember 1918 -2018 – Then and Now

“I shall remember, always.”
- Vera Brittain, reflecting on WWI

2018 marks the centenary of the end of World War I. Fierce heroism from the troops at the Front was matched by the country’s women who raised children alone, nursed, and worked tirelessly despite the loss of husbands, sons, fathers, brothers and friends.

69 choirs from across Britain and abroad – the Military Wives Choirs - have joined together to acknowledge this poignant occasion through a special commemorative project, coming together with musicians from across the three services to create an album like no other, telling the story of ‘then’ (1918) and ‘now’ (2018).

The first single to be taken from this unique record is ‘BRAVE’ and features the voice of No.1 Classical selling artist LAURA WRIGHT.

The Military Wives Choirs is a registered charity working in conjunction with SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity. They are celebrating the diversity in their network as choirs contain military wives, female serving personnel, veterans, mothers, sisters and daughters, as well as others with a military connection. A total of 1105 singers from 69 choirs, including 93 singers

from overseas choirs, took part in seven recording sessions across the UK. The Choirs’ first album ‘In My Dreams’ featured five choirs, the second album ‘Stronger Together’ had 24 choirs and 760 singers, and the third album ‘Home for Christmas’ featured 65 choirs and 1006 singers, a growth that underlines the importance of the solidarity and strength of the network.

A Military Wives Choirs member summed up the project: “The women of 100 years ago are
exactly the same as us. Proud, adaptable, capable and supportive. We owe it to our ancestors to commemorate what they did for us to have the freedom we have today.”

Music for the album centres on five original songs by prestigious composers from the worlds of classical, pop and film music. In addition to Owain Park, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange & Alexander L’Estrange, Adam Langston, James Kennedy & Catrin Southall, Adam Langston, Sean Hargreaves, John Haywood and Laura Wright have written original songs inspired by the thoughts, feelings and direct words of choir members.

The album also includes music from ages past and present, referencing upbeat World War I marching songs, iconic regimental and service marches, beautifully contemplative remembrance pieces and contemporary songs reflecting the choirs’ world, all with a fresh take through creative arrangements and collaboration with world-class military musicians, specifically The Band of the Household Cavalry and the Royal Marines Corps of Drums.

‘Remember’ is due for release on 29th June 2018, to coincide with Armed Forces Day the following day (30th June) which offers a chance for the public to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

About Military Wives Choirs

With over 70 choirs in British military bases across the UK and overseas, the Military Wives Choirs is a charity that brings women in the military community closer together through singing. The unpredictable nature of Forces life means that families of service personnel move around frequently and it can often be tough to put down roots or make new friends, which can leave women feeling isolated. There is lots of research to say that singing in groups helps to alleviate stress and improve mental health, as well as bringing people together. That’s why the Military Wives Choirs are so important. Being part of the Military Wives Choirs makes a positive difference to women’s lives by improving well-being, building friendships and developing skills.

The Military Wives Choirs is an independent registered charity and subsidiary of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. As part of the SSAFA family, they work side by side SSAFA and support their mission to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity as a charity run by, for and with women in the military community.

Winter Project Release New Single 'Beautiful Thing'

A Winter Project is a collaboration of a family of musicians from Bedford, UK and USA.

Richard Winter and Tommy Priakos were prolific song writers back in the 1990’s and Tommy returned home to the States and the partnership had a break.

Tommy came over recently for a reunion and this song was born.

Richard’s son Michael and daughter Katie inherited their dad's talents and have put their fresh unique flavour of rap with modern vocals with old Rock n’ Roll band behind them, making an exciting retro sound.

It's really a family project with Tim Winter playing drums ; Chris Winter helping with all the technical stuff and some local legendary guitarist’s Pete Bonas – adding some dirty rock guitar and Max Milligan adding the clean riff, which drives the song “Beautiful Thing”.

The song was written at Richard's home after a late night drinking some Jack Daniel's and inspired by the Run DMC song “Walk this Way”.

“It’s a beautiful thing writing songs again and recording at “The Lost Boys studio in Cranfield”.

The distorted guitars and 80’s synth make you want to rock out!!

The 109's To Release New Single 'So Long' on 1st June

UK rockers, The 109s, deliver their stunning new album, ‘Hollow Point’ on June 22nd 2018.

The 109s follow their 2017 eponymous debut with ‘Hollow Point’, a set of 11 new songs that showcases the band’s combination of ferocious rock riffage, searing lead guitar breaks, and harmony vocals.

The 109s are an English four-piece who celebrate a mutual love of late ’60s and early ’70s rock - Sabbath, Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Who, MC5, Grand Funk Railroad.

This melting pot of influences has created a blistering, dynamic fusion of all that is best in rock, and their music has garnered praise from DJs, festival promoters and gig-goers alike.

The musicians come from strong improvisational backgrounds and write their songs as a collective, jamming until they find riffs, melody lines and unusual rhythms and cadences that can be boiled down into short, punchy song structures that strut effortlessly through complex, unexpected changes.

The album has been produced by Jason Wilson, at Stakeout Studios who has produced bands such as ‘Don Broco’ and ‘You Me At Six’. Jason has translated the tremendous power and passion of the band’s live performances into recorded songs that have an equal sense of aggression and grandeur.

The band’s line up is as follows:

Drums – Steve Collings
Vocals and Guitar – David Gambril
Bass – Andrew Horstead
Guitar and Vocals – Matthew Pritchard

On "So Long” Matty says:

"Sometimes a song begins not with a melody or a lyric, but with a guitarist suddenly discovering a unique tone or sound. This riff appeared literally seconds after I plugged in a freshly purchased effects pedal, an Octave Multiplexer, which gives the guitar that distinctive phat fuzzy tone. We added some lyrics that pay homage to our interest in grungy, dystopian sci-fi and the rest of the song wrote itself”.

Lead guitarist, Matty P, is also an author and member of the UK Crime Writers Association. He has published four novels in the UK to date - Scarecrow, Stolen Lives, Broken Arrow and Werewolf - under the name Matthew Pritchard, and was nominated for the CWA's Gold Dagger Award.

Coronation Street Review: "Jitters"

You know you're in for a tasty episode when we get the good old violent scenes warning.

Continuing on from Friday's episode Ali and Steve still think Michelle doesn't know the truth about Robert, and Steve is still momentarily mooning over his ex wife. Tim meanwhile lays down the law with little miss stalker Faye, insisting that she apologies to Eileen for her behaviour. She doesn't want to because she still doesn't see herself as being in the wrong, but she does and Eileen wants to draw a line under it all.

Peter meanwhile fills Steve in on how Tracey stayed out all night at the stags house (she and Ryan did some hard drinking and she wound up on Daniel's sofa with Flora taking pity on her heart). Tracey does take great enjoyment in winding Steve up, but he's too focused on Michelle and how she's too good for Robert. The fact that Tracey, very much known for her green eye monster, is more offended that Steve is more annoyed at the prospect of Robert cheating on Michelle than Steve gushing over Michelle is quite frankly ridiculous. The three of them have quite a long history, and it never takes much to get Tracey going.

One person who is most definitely in the wrong is Phelan and Gary is very much on his tracks up in Wales. He's still stewing, preparing for a bloody revenge on Phelan whilst on the street his absence doesn't go unnoticed. His friend though abandons ship, claiming that Gary has gone all psycho since his plans for Phelan are going a bit beyond 'scaring'. Unfortunately that doesn't work out too well for gary, since Phelan gets the jump on him, attempts to strangle him and Gary is only saved by his friend coming back and hitting Phelan with a rock.

Gary does eventually bring Phelan back to the street and stick him in the builder's yard which will obviously work well!

At the Platt's David is trying to make amends with Max. Granted yelling at the poor kid was a bit much, but Gail well and truly lays the guilt at his door commenting once again on how weird he's been and the kids walking on eggshells. Obviously the whole point of this is to continue building up the tension ahead of David finally admitting what Josh has done, but similar to Josh & Shona's interactions it feels very rinse/repeat. It's a similar situation with Shona and David's interactions with Alya. Neither of them is obviously going to tell her just what their problem with Josh is, which is completely fine, but having Alya look like she's trapped in headlights has very much gotten old fast. David does though lay down the law with Emma, explaining that he and Shona are back together and therefore she needs to move out because he's not about the sister wives life.

As Emma cries in devastation David is knocked for six as Dec, the guy who Shona has previously attempted to speak to, pays him a visit and admits they both have someone in common; Josh.

Dec and David sit down for a heart to heart, where Dec reveals how exactly he's been coping with being raped by Josh. The answer is of course not very well and David can sympathize with how exactly Dec is feeling, as he tells David he just wants it over. Dec just wants to forever what Josh did, and their conversation is obviously witnessed by Josh. David tries to offer Dec some support but he understandably isn't interested and David agrees to get Shona to back off. Dec's words do though give David the courage to finally go to the police, but it's a race to go to them before Josh leaves.

Whilst the Connor girls sans Kate are getting Michelle all ready for the wedding, Kate stops by with Johnny and he reveals he understandably won't be attending the wedding. I meanwhile continue to gush over every single interaction Kate has with her fellow Connors because really, it does feel as though her screen time the last few months has just been swallowed up. Michelle very much understands Johnny's absence and they agree to toast in Aidan's honour. Obviously since this is a soap and things do have to move at a fast pace, the Connor's can't be shown to be spending every waking minute of the day grieving for Aidan. Whilst the plots may have to move forward, it is important for Coronation Street to still mention Aidan. He would obviously still want the wedding to go ahead, but his absence will most definitely be felt, and I'm sure people around the world who've lost someone to suicide will he able to sympathize.

Gail soon pops in on the girl's and unintentionally lets slip that Ryan is missing. This very much alarms Michelle who is starting to see it all as signs that she shouldn't be getting married. Ryan is of course tracked down at the house of a girl he has slept with, and they're rather angrily confronted by her angry husband and unfortunately Robert is the one who gets punched.

Our first 'action packed' nights of sorts ends with Sarah discovering that Gary has indeed got Phelan locked up. It very much feels like the appetizer to what is hoped to be an extremely eventful week, but Coronation Street needs to very much hope airing 5 nights this week, that tomorrow's events picks up the pace.
