CONTROLRadioUK Picks 5 Songs You May Not Have Heard Of

Here at CONTROLRadioUK we're always on the look-out for music be it for the playlist, or just because we think the tracks are pretty neat so check out our picks below.

OK I know this article is a good few days late which I entirely blame on illness, but this is still a pretty neat track. A pattern has been developing in the relationship focused songs that have been featuring in these picks. It's completely accidental, but a breath of fresh air on the genre. Songs about the heartbreak and devastation of a relationship going south are obviously always going to invest, and they're a great comfort along with the tub of ice cream. But realizing there are problems in a relationship & asking your partner to be head on and real over them, and being able to see that one person is more invested in a relationship than the other is a really good avenue to explore. It's songwriting at its most truthful, brutal and bravest, since these are very difficult, and one might even say vulnerable, subjects to write about and this song is absolutely beautiful. Phoebe Ryan is an American singer/songwriter, and you can download and stream 'Be Real' now.

You may be thinking that Maty Noyes is a familiar name, and you'd be absolutely right since she gave us the superb 'In My Mind', which hasn't left my playlist since release. Dare I say that 'Say It To My Face' is even better? Because it is and I didn't think that possible. When Artists such as Maty Noyes come along and give us such fantastic songs at a relatively young age for a musician (most don't start to peak until their mid-20's) you stand up and take notice. Musically this song is a breath of fresh air from the EDM tropical beat ridden nuisances that are currently ruling the chart. Lyrically this has a lot of depth in providing a catchy chorus that will get stuck in your head, whilst the song avoids getting repetitive after a few listens. Having an undercurrent of an 80's electro vibe will also do you a world of favors. The only critic I could really give is this song only being 2:51 seconds long, but sometimes it's better to be 'short' by usual standards than bring down the song with filler.

Never did I think I'd ever willingly listen to a Rebecca Black song, let alone feature her in 5 Picks but this song is an absolute bop. To be honest I think she was given an extremely rough ride with the 'Friday' backlash. 'Heart Full of Scars' is extremely self aware whilst also being really fun, and being accompanied by fantastic music. It's a song that everyone in some way or another will be able to relate to, and again for someone so young, it is an extremely impressive song to come up with.

I don't have much to say about this except I love MUNA, am praying to the stars I get to see them next month, and every time a new MUNA song comes out, it is impossible for me to ignore and not feature it here. This song is great just like every song they make and the video is really cute and fun.

I've featured a number of Lights songs here now, and that's because she's an excellent singer/songwriter/actor, which she's showing off in bundles here. She mixes different genres of music together so effortlessly, and her songs are so deep and yet so enjoyable to listen to. Skin&Earth is out tomorrow and you can also get the comic here. It directly ties in with the album, which if you've listened or watched the videos for the other singles is very much obvious, but I think it's a really cool thing for fans to dig in to.
