Ruth Royall To Release New Single 'Shake Me Up' on 13th July

Bristol songwriter Ruth Royall plays The Harbourside Festival on the 21st and they are enlisting the help of a flash mob to film her performance as part of the promotion to her new single Shake Me Up, which carries the message that Social Media is sending us all mad and we should embrace going out and having fun.

Ruth’s latest track is a clear nod to her love of funk such as The Meters, The Commodores and Mark Ronson. Royall’s new soul sound is layered with electronic influences and beats that stem from an upbringing in Bristol where Hip Hop is inherent and everybody knows Tricky. Fluctuating from delicate to dark to dripping with honey, Royall’s vocals encompass Billie Holiday, Etta James and Sade together with her production style that reflects her more recent obsessions like Submotion Orchestra, Zero 7,Jamie Woon and Nikka Costa.

After a few years of experimenting and developing her sound she became an established face on the Bristol music scene and founded The Bristol Sessions, a soul collective that sent shock waves across the city and remained an integral part of the cities buzzing music scene.

Ruth has since toured Europe and the UK, played Glastonbury Festival, The Colston Hall, The Jazz Cafe, and The Roundhouse.

Royall has attracted the attention of the likes of Mo Pleasure (Earth Wind and Fire), Ian Mathews (Kasabian) and Jeremy Vine (BBC Radio 2) while her previous releases saw her lauded by Robert Elms (BBC London) Velvet Sheep, Bristol Live Magazine, Tap The Feed, Found Magazine and BBC Introducing West.

Ruth and her band line up of Jon Clark (drums), Harry Stoneham (guitar), Sam Woollcott (Trombone) and Dorian Childs-Prophet (keys) are set to play the following live shows in the coming months.
