PreCog Drop Thought-Provoking New Video For Compete

PreCog drop thought-provoking new video for Compete

Nashville-based dark electronic band PreCog have released a video for their track Compete, from their recent sophomore album Pareidolia. An introspective and heart-wrenching ballad, Compete is a powerful testament to the band’s ability to create accessible yet thought-provoking electronic music with a soul.

The video’s director and the band’s guitarist Bret Pemelton describes the inspiration for the visuals:

“As a photographer I'm always looking for the conceptual angle with my portraits. With video I like to wrap it all around a simple theme. Especially as i'm pulling favors with cast and crew. So I went with a literal take on the song’s title. I liked the idea of this mystical female person arriving out of nowhere and manipulates the, seemingly disconnected, young couple to resort to their primal instincts. The final scene shows the couple, in a defeated posture, approaching and mounting an Olympic type podium, both at equal heights at opposite sides. The torch bearing mystical woman rises as the victor. Like two warring factions, countries and ideologies that seek to decimate the other, there's never really any winners. Justice raises her torch to illuminate this ugly truth.”

Compete and the album Pareidolia are available on all major streaming and digital platforms, as well as direct from the band’s label AnalogueTrash.

Coronation Street Review: "To The Death"

We are finally here! The end of Corrie's BGT special week. And that's not the only thing that ended tonight.

The action picked right back up at Eileen's where Phelan had unfortunately accidentally shot his own daughter. We're also treated to another 2 second shot of Rana in her gorgeous dress as the guests wait for Michelle and Robert's wedding to actually happen. Robert apologizies for the delay which should really be a 5 day delay, because this truly has been the longest wedding in soap history.

Jenny is of course sad Johnny's not here for the wedding, but they're all soon stopped in their tracks by Phelan barging into the Bistro carrying Nicola and demanding emergency help. Gary, Sarah and Anna arrive at Eileen's to survey the chaos left behind. Meanwhile at the Bistro Nurse Rana and Doctor Ali are straight to Nicola's side, whilst Phelan is still waving a gun around and threatening to shoot Michelle. No-one miss the sight of Kate starting off at the back of the Bistro, face dropping petrified at Nurse Rana in action and she's soon joining the chaos because she ain't gonna let her bae Rana be in danger.

With Phelan taking phones, lavishing a gun around and everyone repeating that Nicola needs help, he wants a hostage to keep them all quiet and make sure Nicola is treated. He eventually settles upon Michelle which carla and Robert are devastated by and can only standby helplessly as he takes her into the kitchen, and clearly Steve trying to snog her isn't the worth thing happening on Michelle's wedding day.

Since it is now the end of the week the police have of course now descended onto the street, and Gary's soon filling them in on events.

And then because tonight really does mean business, Michelle puts up a fight against Phelan in the kitchen, he shoots her and Anna stabs him. WHY DID WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY FOR ALL OF THIS TO HAPPEN?! THIS WEEK WOULD'VE BEEN A BILLION TIMES BETTER IF ALL THIS ACTION HAD KICKED OFF A HECK OF A LOT EARLIER!!

Anna Windass being the one to stab Phelan is extremely therapeutic and completely deserved. Michelle getting shot is rather unfortunate, but hey! We've gotta keep the tension up. Robert and carla are soon rushing to Michelle's side with Carla completely and utterly devastated for her best friend's fate because Carchelle will forever live. Ali is soon treating her and Phelan's pretty happy that Anna will be going down for murder, because with him it is always about getting the upper hand and dragging people down to his level. For Anna going down would be absolutely worth it, but Michelle is more than willing to back her corner and claim it to be self defense for the sake of all of Phelan's victims. Anna takes great joy in telling Phelan people like him don't get to win in the end, and how she's going to get to know their grand son.

Honestly bringing her back for tonight's episode was a stroke of genius. If anyone deserved to be responsible for Phelan's downfall it's her. The armed police have taken control of the scene, and as Gail correctly deduces it is all going on today! Gosh I love when dramas get all meta on us!

Josh is soon back on the street to taunt David over the rape and David warns him if he rapes anyone else, he will be there waiting to jump on the evidence and points out Phelan thought he was invincible and now he's very much not. After a whole week of build-up Michelle and Robert's wedding is very much not to be. The apparent explanation for Anna being around is she was released early from prison. The how's and the why's don't really matter at this point, everyone is in too much shock and disbelief over what's transpired to care. Anna does though pop in to see Eileen, informing her that Phelan is dead but Eileen isn't too sure about that and who can blame her? Guy survived falling off a cliff! Eileen does though offer apologies to Anna for what she's been through, and it's a really lovely moment between the two characters who have both been victims of Phelan's in different ways.

Anna takes a few moments of reflection for the person that Phelan has turned them into, and doesn't want either of them to turn out as bad as Phelan has. He's murdered, he's abused, he's raped, he's manipulated, but at the end of the day? They're the ones left standing not him.

Following on from that is Gail pouring her heart out to Shona about everything that David has been through. She feels absolutely terrible, and that's a feeling that will probably stay for a while. But like with Phelan, they are all still standing and that's a great message to take away from the week.

This final episode was a bit of a saving grace of an extremely dull week. It just really is a shame that it took until today for things to actually be interesting. The fallout from Phelan will obviously carry on into next week. Michelle isn't quite out of the woods yet and neither is Nicola. Anna's return is very much a quick stop as she decides to leave the street again, with too much have happened for her to be able to stay. With Faye unhappy over her leaving, she decides to join Anna much to Tim's sadness. Whether it is just a temporary exit for Faye or not, it is right for both of the characters for now at least to leave together.

The final shot of the night goes to the residents watching Phelan be driven off in a body bag, but this is Coronation Street. Give it 5 years and he'll be returning from the dead in a Halloween Special!

Allie X, Meg Myers, MNEK & Hailee Steinfeld and The 1975 Are Our New Music Friday Picks

Attempting to control fangirling is extremely difficult so let me just get this out of my system; ALLIE X IS BACK WITH A BRAND NEW SINGLE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL, YOUR EYES ARE NOT DECEIVING YOU!! Allie X is also a rare Artist incapable of producing a bad song, and that's not fangirling it's just stating facts. She's also extremely under-rated like many an Artist, so when we are blessed with new music? You have to savor it up (and also gush about it but that goes without saying). From the teasers released I knew that 'Focus' would be a bop because again! Incapable of producing bad music. But 'Focus' is not only a bop, it's a fantastic summer chill bop. It's got some lovely beats on it that the rest of CONTROLRadioUK HQ loves, and the lyrics are as heartfelt and poignant as always.

Thanks to paying attention to social media, yesterday I became aware that Allie X was releasing 'Focus' and that was great. Thanks to not paying attention to social media, I had no idea Meg Myers released 'Take Me To The Disco' until I was informed this morning. It's an absolute beaut. Meg Myers is another Artist who is under-rated, and another Artist incapable of producing a bad song. Her up tempo numbers are fantastic and her ballads will rip your heart in two. Given how much new music is released every year, it's extremely difficult for Artist to cut through that pollution and deliver such heart felt songs, that stay with you long after they've finished. Yet Meg Myers does it every time. There's not really words to describe why 'Take Me To The Disco' is so good and I love when songs leave me speechless. The lyrics are just absolutely perfect in how devastating beautiful they are, and I'm pretty sure if the single does get a video, I'm going to cry a waterfall. For those unaware the album "Take Me To The Disco" is out on the 20th July and you can pre-order it now.

This weeks New Music Friday is one of THE best New Music Friday's we've had this year. Given how much 'Tongue' grew on me and quickly became a favorite, I had no doubt when this collaboration was first announced that the song would be LIT. It's such a chilled song with such easy going, uplifting lyrics and MNEK & Hailee Steinfeld fit together so perfectly on the track, which is a key mark of success for any collab. And another key part of success for any song is that it actually goes somewhere, which this most certainly does whilst never over powering their vocals. It might certainly be a grey day, but this song is most definitely bringing 'Colour' to your life (I know, terrible pun!)

Finishing this weeks #NewMusicFriday is of course The 1975's new single 'Give Yourself A Try'. I only recently remembered to add them back to my playlist and as a result have been listening to 'Somebody Else' and 'The Sound' pretty much non stop, since they're both certifiable bops. 'Give Yourself A Try' has very much joined them on repeat. It's to an extent a return to the bands pop sound and they've also announced their new album "A Brief Inquiry Into Online relationships" will be coming later this year. I cannot wait!

Tiny Fighter Release 'Hollow Sky' Single + Video

Indie-pop group Tiny Fighter follow-up the success of their debut single by releasing their second single Hollow Talk.

Fans of scandi-noir classic The Bridge may recognise this reinterpretation of the show’s opening theme. Full of dramatic piano, cellos and berserker drums, Hollow Talk represents a departure from the poppier sounds of their previous single New Century. Hollow Talk was recorded in Los Angeles and Stockholm with Daniel Reymer (Ben Frost, Foals, Girls Names).

Despite the staggering odds against them ever meeting, Therese Karlsson (a truck driver from Kalmar in southern Sweden) and Tim Spelman (a doctor from Melbourne, Australia) came together in Stockholm in 2017. Recently hailed as a “fast-rising indie-pop duo from Stockholm” (CelebMix) who make “The most unique tracks we’ve heard” (NeuFutr), Tiny Fighter has recently expanded from a duo into a fully-fledged live six-piece band, bringing all the dynamics and volume of their recorded material on to the stage.

Following on from their award-winning, fully 360-degree video collaboration with Kyle V James for previous single New Century, Tiny Fighter have this time teamed up with renowned Swedish filmmaking sisters Kentsdottir to create an intimate, cinematic music video for Hollow Talk, featuring vocalist Therese Karlsson. Part classic mood piece, part cautionary tale of attempting said mood piece, the video follows Therese through a day of recording where things go from good, to slightly less good, to downright bad.

For Fans Of: Aldous Harding | CLOVES | Wolf Alice | Agnes Obel | Choir of Young Believers

‘Hollow Talk’ will be in Digital Stores on the 1st of June.

Offered as an enticing introduction to the band's sonic cocktail of modern rock with vocal hooks that fire unashamedly into pop territories - the single is taken from their 'Morning After The Madness' EP due for release late 2018.
